FAQs
Can I install AUTOSLIDE™ myself?
Yes, Autoslide is designed to be an easy Do-It-Yourself product. Every home automation kit comes with a step-by-step instruction booklet and an instructional DVD.
Do the provided measurements in the the instruction manual and video apply to every installation scenario?
No. There are a large number of different door styles and models as well as different installation scenarios. The measurements are provided as a guideline to installing the Autoslide onto your sliding door. If you are unsure on how to install or where to install, please contact us at service@autoslide.com or on our online chat. CAUTION: Some glass patio door panels have thin frames. If you drill into or screw into the area of the frame that contains glass, it will cause your door's glass to crack and/or shatter.
Is there anyone that I can contact to fit AUTOSLIDE™ for me?
Please check our Distributor Page to see if there’s a qualified Autoslide installer in your area. Otherwise, you can use any licensed electrician or your local handyman.
Do I need a power supply to run the AUTOSLIDE™?
Yes, Autoslide is powered by a low voltage, 24V DC power adapter /transformer with a 59-inch long cord, suitable for use in any country with 110-240V AC mains power outlet. Additional 6-foot extension cords are sold separately if required to connect to the nearest power point/socket.
Can I fit the AUTOSLIDE™ on the outside of the house?
Autoslide is designed to be weather-proof. Standing inside the house looking at the sliding door, if the sliding panel slides open and covers over the fixed panel, that means your door is fitted from the inside and Autoslide will need to be fitted inside. Still standing inside of the house, if the sliding panel slides behind the fixed panel, then Autoslide must be fitted on the outside of the house.
What if there is a power failure?
If there is a main power failure the sliding door reverts back to a manual sliding door. The door can still open and close manually with ease.
If the door is manually locked and someone tries to open the door by pulling it or activating the push button or sensor, will that damage the AUTOSLIDE™ motor?
No. Autoslide will attempt to open the door 3 times but will quickly revert back to close if it is unable to open. No damage to the system.
If a visitor does not know that I have AUTOSLIDE™ installed and goes and pulls open the door manually while it is in Automatic mode, will that damage the system or motor?
No. This is also described as a Power Assist or Pull Assist which is a built-in function of the Autoslide where a gentle pull of the door handle will activate a full open.
How long does it take to install an AUTOSLIDE™unit?
The average door requires approximately 90 minutes of installation time. As all doors are not the same, some doors may require a longer period of installation.
Does the AUTOSLIDE™ unit have a built-in lock?
Yes. The Autoslide can now be purchased with an electric dynamic locking motor. While the Autoslide unit is in Normal Mode or Pet Mode, it will remain locked when the door is closed. When the door is activated using one of the Autoslide activation devices, the Autoslide will disengage the lock inside the motor and the door will open. Once the door closes back, it will re-engage the lock, providing a now secure sliding door.
Will AUTOSLIDE™ work with an electronic locking system?
Yes, Autoslide works with any 24 volt electronic with both fail-safe and fail-secure electronic locks. Please email us at info@autoslide.com if you are unsure which Autoslide version you have. We only supply the additional 2-core cable to wire an electronic lock back to the Autoslide system. We do not supply the locks and do not assume any liability whatsoever for the use of any external electronic locking system with the Autoslide system. Please consult your nearest licensed locksmith or home automation expert.
What door weight can the AUTOSLIDE™ unit take?
The standard Autoslide system can handle doors where the sliding panel is up to 200 lbs. However, it must be friction free and free-running. The unit can handle up to 12 lbs. of drag force. For doors with higher drag forces, you can upgrade to the Autoslide Elite Motor. This motor will handle large, heavier panels with a drag force up to 50 lbs. You can measure drag force using a fish scale or luggage scale.
Note: Weather seals, brush, and cold weather affect the overall weight / pull friction force of door.
Can I use AUTOSLIDE™ for commercial applications, such as an entry into a shop or main building?

In the event that the Autoslide is used for a commercial application, the warranty conditions may not be satisfied. If a commercial application is required, please email us at info@autoslide.com.

I've just installed the infra-red sensors and the blue light doesn't come on consistently and doesn't seem to be sensitive enough.
Using a small flat head screwdriver, slowly turn the adjuster screw (white and blue knob) on the side of the sensor to lengthen the infrared beam. Test operation by waving your hand in front of the transceiver. Adjust the transceiver orientation and sensitivity to suit before replacing cover.
My sliding doors are 70 inches wide. Will AUTOSLIDE™ work?
If that is the total width of the doors measured from one end of fixed panel to end of sliding panel, it means each panel is only 35.43 in. so AUTOSLIDE™ should work if your door is under 200 lbs. and friction free. If each panel measures 70 inches wide making the total width of the sliding doors 140 inches wide, you will need to check if the sliding panel is heavier than 200 lbs.
We've just installed the system and the door went through the learning stage, closes and is now repeatedly opening and closing by itself.
1) Check that the drive system cog (pinion) is properly aligned with the rack teeth. (Check that there is not too big a gap between cog and teeth as otherwise misalignment can happen during learning/setup stage. Re-align and re-install.
2) If infrared sensors were programmed into the system, check that the sensors are not in direct sunlight which could trigger the sensors to activate opening the door.
3) Check that all DIP switches are in the correct positions especially DIP switch 5 and 6 for the type of door you’re using (Patio – heavy door, Screen – light door).
4) Check that there is no debris or obstruction on the sliding door tracks causing the system to perform a safety reverse.
